Autumn…

At Cas & David’s wedding, we noticed this great sense of community from those who surrounded them that day. Everyone had flown in from Rankin Inlet, Nunavut where they’re from and what stood out to us was this sense of a real close family. While a slideshow played at their reception, there were more cheers and excitement then we had ever seen before. This is because family and friends are so engrained in each of their lives. When it came time to play their Same Day Edit, everyone gathered around, creating a close and intimate atmosphere. It was a special experience for us. We wanted to include an important part of their culture; hearing the traditional sounds of throat singing at the beginning of the film – something we had never heard before. The backdrop of the beautiful Quarry Oaks Golf Course fit them so well, with an outdoor fall ceremony and thankfully the day turned out to be gorgeous. Thank you Cas, David, family and friends for allowing us to participate with you. Marian of Moments by Marian and her assistant, Kim, were so great to work with – we had an awesome time together. Thank you to Cody G for filming with us; always a pleasure.

Penguin…

Here is another fairy tale wedding and true love story that we can’t seem to get enough of.  Lydia and Shane are the most gentle and gracious people. The entire day had this feeling of peace and grace that brought you in. As soon as it was their turn to express to one another how deep their love is,  the emotions escalated and brought to light all the words spoken so gently.  There is always a first time for everything;  to hear about the African penguins having one mate for life, a perfect example and model of commitment needed for marriage. We had an incredible time filming their wedding and as always feel it is an honour to do what we do. Joel Ross Photography was incredible to work with, a big thank you.

white white… and a little black

White all around.  Clean and crisp, sophisticated and savvy.  Can’t get distracted by color on this photo shoot.  Continuing with Events by Emma’s Highstyle shoot, this theme is bold and stylish from the body art paint to the mood lighting.

Very honoured to see Curtis Moore’s photographs get featured in Style Me Pretty. And, of course, seeing it featured on Weddings In Winnipeg is equally as impressive.

Hometown discovery…

We love the story behind Monica’s wedding dress.  There is a connection with her parents hometown, the street her parents met on, and the discovery of finding the perfect dress and shoes.  There were fairy tale moments all through their day and these two have had quite the journey finding each other.  We know your lives will be filled with adventure and romance.  Thank you for allowing us to film your wedding day. Special thanks to Lucky Girl Photography you are the best! Also thanks to Soiree Event Planning, it was a pleasure working with you! And Mr. Cody for 3rd shootering!

Best is yet to come…

These two are best friends!  Their speeches cap off where they are at now and where they are going in the future together.  Like Melissa says, “the best is yet to come”.  How much more fulfilling is starting a marriage off planning for it to become something even better than it is at the moment?  We had the opportunity to do exactly that! We filmed first hand the love they both have for their family and friends, and it was so inspiring.  Thank you both so much for allowing us to film your wedding!

Melissa and Michael were a perfect example of a Paperback Films couple! They both loved the idea of a shorter highlights film to remember their day and to share it with their family and friends. Yet they still wanted the traditional full length Ceremony and Reception with speeches which would forever be captured and rememberd for years to come.  That is what Paperback Films is all about.  The best of both worlds!

An extra thank you to Luckygirl Photography,  we always have such a great time working with you. It sure helps that we really get along so well :).  You make the day relaxing and fun.. yet organized and efficient! Every time we get to work with Andrea & Karen from Soiree Event Planning, they make the day run so smoothly and seamlessly. We really couldn’t be more excited to work with such talented and professional people in the Winnipeg wedding industry.  We cannot say enough good things about them …and last but not least, Mr.Cody, so so great to have you work with us filming the wedding.  The pieces all come together.

Mazel Tov

Cultures are what make life so colourful and exciting and we love the traditions and joyous celebrations of the Jewish community. We had an amazing day with the Mr. and the Mrs. and can’t wait to put their highlights together. Many heartfelt moments with their families showed the caring and compassionate side of these two. As cliche as it sounds we could really feel the love in the air. Enjoy the trailer!

Absolutely love working with Rachael & Mairen from Luckygirl Photography! We always have such a good day and the we get along so well.

Chop Sticks & Naan Bread…

On the day of they were calling for rain… well the clouds parted very early and the sky was blue all day long!   Lan & Amit had a Vietnamese/East Indian wedding and we can’t be more excited to share their Same Day Edit.  This blend of cultures made for some very visually stunning details such as Lan’s necklace and henna on her hands and feet.  The sparkles glistening and reflecting from the light are what grab our attention instantly.  Lan & Amit both showed themselves as poised and relaxed throughout the day but definitely showed more of their personalities during the photo shoot with Manny.  There were larger than life smiles and joy as they were letting loose with the bridal party.  One thing you won’t see on the SDE is their first dance due to scheduling, however this was our first glimpse of these two displaying their romantic side dancing with grace and elegance across the floor.

White Horse…

Filming Amit during the Baraat brought out the first signs of exuberant celebrations that would follow throughout the day.  The white horse trailed the beat of the drum and celebratory family members of Amit leading him to his bride with their hands high in the air and voices raised up.  Cultures all have their unique signs of celebration and the most admirable quality of this group is the sense of welcoming and acceptance. Thank you Lan & Amit for letting us share your day with you!

Prince Philip…

Incredible heartfelt couples that are truly head over heels for each other are only found in fairy tales, right?  Well we assure you they happen in real life and when we had our first meeting with these two it was so amazing to sit and laugh, chatting about all kinds of things and hearing about how they met.   Yes, a couple truly in love.   Just a self realization note to add in here; we have found that after our first meeting with our couples we generally have a good idea of what they are like and what they are into, and when the wedding day comes around a different part of them comes to life.  So, for Ayli and Phil we would say we were completely mesmerized by how close they are to their families and how head over heels they really are for each other.  The first look was the much anticipated moment of the day and watching Phil’s reaction to seeing Ayli for the first time could melt anyone’s heart.  Phil is a groom that we would describe as a noble, upstanding gentleman, who will stand firm through the test of time.  Our utmost respect and adoration for these two, you both are incredibly loving people!

The Beat…

Ayli and Phil like a wide variety of music and we were very inspired by Adele, as Ayli had her playing in the background while getting ready.  We like to be inspired by new music and artists that fit the Paperback Films feel and for this highlights we were drawn into the intensity of Arms by Christina Perri.  Being able to get in so close at the ceremony and being right part of the action helped to bring their story along and as the song builds you feel the breaking of the glass approaching, symbolizing the broken world we live in with the hope that new love and life can heal all those who suffer.  At the sound of the breaking glass, family and friends shout “Mazel Tov!” which means good luck and congratulations.  Then the happily ever after comes…

A Same Day Edit for friends, Sadie & Cody

May 6, 2011 – We have been looking forward to this wedding for quite some time now as Cody is actually one of our cameramen from time to time… so we were excited to put this together. Their day was perfectly designed for a Same Day Edit which is always a great help. One or two months before Cody had told us he was going to propose, he played us a song  that he wanted us to use for the SDE.  Inspired by Amanda Falk’s song Symphony we were able to bring their day of 1959 retro cars, strawberries and mimosa’s, extravagant flower arrangements, many tears of joy, and a relationship centred on their faith to the forefront.

Family, Friends, and the Dress…

The emotions were deep as many close family and friends were involved in pretty much every aspect of the wedding. Everything from the flower arrangements, decorations, hair styling, to Sadie’s Mom’s amazing talent where she had sewn all of the dresses herself…yes all the bridesmaids dresses and Sadie’s wedding dress were sewn by her Mom!. The dresses were stunning and when Sadie and the girls were together putting the final touches on the birdcage veil/accessories it was hard to hold back the tears. We were all drawn in emotionally on this one. During the speeches we can sometimes get emotionally invested in the stories we hear, but on this day there were several times throughout the day where we almost lost it. We are truly blessed by you two and look forward to spending more time with you as a married couple!

What is a Same Day Edit (SDE)?…

The Same Day Edit is a fairly new option which entails a 3-4min video filmed throughout the day and it is presented on a projector at your reception.  From the response we have had we know there is something special about seeing and reliving what has happened so quickly throughout the day.  Many times the guests you have invited are not aware of the SDE and it can be a memorable way for your loved ones to experience your day with you.  It is usually your close family and friends who are with you from morning till night and of course it has to be that way, but having the ability to show a piece of the joy that you had with your guests brings everyone together and allows everyone to feel like they participated in celebrating your wedding day. Special thanks to Sabine Chorley & Julie Fulsher from Sterling Images

A little bit about Amanda + Jacob…

Jan 16, 2011. If there are two words to describe Amanda & Jacob it would have to be fun and inspiring! It was clearly evident that these two were meant for each other.  We were lucky enough to be welcomed into the inner circle on their very emotional and special day. After spending a day with them we quickly understood the passion they have for life and each other. The path they traveled that eventually led them to find each other is a story everyone should have the privilege to hear. Amanda & Jacob, you inspired us from the second we showed up at your door to the emotional sparkler lit first dance. You encouraged us to find the story in your day, and you were gracious enough to share it with us. This is the story of Amanda + Jacob….

A little bit about the Feature…

We are very excited to post this wedding feature of Amanda & Jacob for a number a reasons. First, a little bit of backstory to set the stage. Amanda contacted us to see if we could film her wedding. We met with her (as we do with all our clients) at our favorite coffee shop to see what her day was going to look like and catch her vision for the day.

Being in the music industry and creative world, Amanda was open to hearing about a product we were wanting to test pilot and we thought she would appreciate it.  We had recently challenged ourselves to create more story-driven products for our clients and this was the perfect opportunity to “try out” this concept.  Needless to say, we presented her with the idea and she was thrilled about it. Instead of shooting and editing a full linear ceremony & reception with speeches, we agreed to shoot and create a very short film/story instead. The product would contain a Short Film Feature, Behind the Scenes Footage, and a Trailer. The film you see here is the Short Film Feature portion…

We are eagerly awaiting feedback to see if this is something that more couples would like and are interested in! Please let us know what you think, it’s something that confirms we are in the right direction! Special Thanks to…Photographer | Jodi Klassen Venue | The Brass Lantern Restaurant and Banquet Centre Amanda Falk’s Music | Amanda Falk

Pool Time..

Water and wedding dresses equals fun. Mix in there a floating table and glasses of wine. For this shoot we had a lot of fun having the crane by the pool side and using a gopro to shoot the underwater video. Love the blue color! Kylie and Adam rocked this one, it was awesome. Very fun shoot!

Green Moss, Frogs and a Princess…

Another Highstyle Theme revealed this month in the Weddings In Winnipeg magazine as well as online.  Emma and her team went fairy tail on this one!

Green moss, frogs, princess dress, and jewelry like you have never seen before. Yes the Swamp theme was one of the highlights of the days’ themes because it is not typical on the wedding scene, and it allowed everyone involved to let their imaginations run wild without limitations. Very fun shoot!

September 17, 2010 – Scott & Stacy’s day had finally arrived and you could feel the excitement in the air! We were seriously blown away by everyones enthusiasm throughout the whole day despite it being so cold outside. This wedding was truly inspiring for us due to the fact that we witnessed Scott & Stacy enjoying every minute of the day. We noticed Scott had a permanent smile on his face the entire day, this is so evident not only while filming but also while we edited together the highlights, go see for yourself!  Stacy even took an early morning bike ride before going to the salon in the morning, which goes to show that excitement was carried throughout the day. Everything looked fantastic and was decorated so well.  What a blast!  Thanks Stacy and Scott! At Stacy and Scotts wedding we were privileged to work along side Bond from BLF Studios.

The First Kiss

September 5, 2010’s long weekend is one to be remembered by a lot of people. It was definitely one of the most beautiful weekends to get married, the grass lush green, birds chirping, and golfers golfing. Energy, character, and youthful passion were in the air and it was celebrated with an outdoor wedding at the Niakwa Country club.

With this backdrop in place and everything planned just right, Jillian and David made a memorable day. We love to cover the entire day as it really allows us to explore the dynamics of the family, the dynamics among the wedding party, and constructs a story from the whole day. The ladies were chatting away early in the morning at the salon “Hair Obsession” on Henderson Hwy, as many of the wedding party and guests were in from all over North America. The gentlemen were eagerly waiting for me to arrive so they could complete their ensembles and continue on with the day.

This particular highlights was strongly influenced by what unfolded before us as the day went on and what was revealed to us at the end of the day that made everything come together. There was special meaning to the first kiss at the ceremony and Jillian and David held true to themselves by waiting till this time as it really did signify their first kiss as a couple. And that brings to light why the gentlemen were hasty to get to the ceremony. Their friends and their family united in the fact that these two had character that was encouraging and uplifting to the point of it being a thread in their highlights. Hope you all enjoy Jillian and Davids highlights as much as we enjoyed putting it together. Special thanks to Photographer | Curtis Moore and Niakwa Golf Country Club.

Weddings In Winnipeg put on a fantastic 4 day wedding showcase spanning 4 venues and many talented and professional vendors. It was a pleasure talking with so many wonderful couples who where interested in having a wedding video. Things have changed in the world of wedding video’s and many of the couples had not seen this type of video produced for a wedding.

The first question I always asked was if they were thinking of getting a wedding video? Most of the couples would say, “kind of but not really sure”, then they would proceed with…. “however we have never seen this style of wedding video before”. My favourite questions from the couples were: Q: Do you pose people and make them do it again cause your video looks so perfect it must have been staged? A: Not at all, we want to only capture what really happened so there is no posing or set up on our part. Q: If you don’t stage things how did you get those beautiful shots? A: We really get to know each couple as much as possible and plan as much as possible before the wedding day so we can portray your character… and we have shot a lot of weddings so we anticipate as much as possible.

So, the people were amazing, the show was amazing, and the wedding planners were amazing with their fantastic displays and decor that were over the top! If you are thinking of a wedding video for next year definitely shoot us an email right away, dates are filling up! Here are the sample video’s we put together to show what each event was like. Looking forward to next years show!

October 16th, 2010. It was our final outdoor wedding of the season at The Gates in the middle of October, fantastic day! We were so pleased that the weather held out and Patti got her dream wedding outside. Patti is a sweetheart and her face had a constant smile on it. She was truly a happy bride. It was so awesome to see the joy and celebration that Ray and Patti were experiencing throughout the day. This is why we love weddings!

The trailer is a real tease, so enjoy! Chris and I had such a great day filming and absolutely enjoyed working with Jeremy Hiebert. Enjoy.

Here is a sneak peak of Scott & Stacy’s wedding!

The amazing part is you cannot tell how chilly the temperature was outside, being that it was around 10 degree’s. Scott, Stacy and the whole wedding party were willing and stoked to do just about anything with Bond from BLF Studios (blfstudios.com). Bond’s sneak peak of the photographs were unreal, can’t wait to see more! And Esther, Bond’s second shooter was a blast to work with as well. We loved the variety of locations and it was so awesome to be apart of documenting this day

Hands down, Scott & Stacy along with the whole party delivered the most memorable wedding to date. Chris Radtke and myself were pumped with the shots we got and are excited to put it all together.
