Tale of two cities

Lainey and Paul grew up down the street from each other in the city of Winnipeg, went to the same elementary school and attended the same summer camp only to meet and fall in love in the city of Toronto. Let’s add one more point, the connection took place on Facebook with the help of some friends and family hoping that this match was meant to be. With the past bringing them so close together you would think they would have many things in common, yet their differences make them the wonderful and engaging couple they are. We wish them the most joyous and adventurous marriage possible!

We had an incredible time filming their wedding which took place at the Fort Garry Hotel and worked along side Curtis Moore Photography, which is always a highlight for us.

When You Smile, I Smile

From humble beginnings and a chance meeting, Brittany and Kyle have a passion filled story to share. Looking back at how they were instantly lost in each others present’s while meeting up at Earls with a group of friends, it is easy to see how their relationship was kickstarted into high gear. Kyle is a passionate individual. Brittany is an equally passionate individual. When these two are together their connection is palpable and it is clear from their Feature Film.

From a morning game of football to a hot delicious breakfast, the men made the most of their opportunity to have some fun together. The ladies had their morning PJ’s on and took advantage of the time to soak in all the excitement. The day was absolutely perfect for a roof top ceremony at the WAG and we had an incredibly fun day with the whole wedding party.

The day was also made extra special by all the vendors and we do want to point out the wonderful experience we had with DJ Brenton from Summer Bounce and Izabela Rachwal from Rachwal Photography.

Honour guard solute

Kevin and Brittany express the gentle side of life as they both have big hearts and deeply touch those around them. Like their character, their wedding day was crafted with many meaningful connections with their family and friends, and it represented who they are as individuals and who they strive to be as a married couple. This carries through their wedding film with a powerful resonance of love and respect. While Kevin’s career path led him to the community he would meet his future wife, their relationship milestones have spanned the Manitoba landscape from end to end and we are so thankful they had their wedding in Winnipeg.

The Caboto Centre decor was spectacular and we had an incredible day filming their wedding along side photographer, Trish Palud.

Life’s Stair Case

CiJae and Scott’s wedding day revealed their history together and touched on the possibilities that these two will accomplish together. Speeches from their family and friends spoke of their love and connection; how CiJae’s face lit up like a christmas tree when talking about Scott, and how Scott was drawn to CiJae at the office.

Scott’s uncle Ted lead the ceremony processions and offered up a unique perspective based on seeing Scott grow up from a young boy to the groom standing before his bride. Along the journey of life there are many ups and downs to contend with which CiJae and Scott have encountered during their relationship. Uncle Ted recounted the time he saw Scott as a toddler climb the stairs to the top of the landing where he expressed his joy in overcoming the dangerous feat. Likewise he concluded they are now standing at the bottom of one of life’s stair cases beginning their climb together.

In a card to Scott, CiJae wrote “What we have has nothing to do with luck”. This line could sum up what these two have worked towards and will continue to have for the rest of their lives. Best friends getting married.

Thank you to Joel Ross Photography, Soiree Event Planning and The Fort Garry Hotel for a magnificent experience.

Soft Place to Land

Kris was described as the “calm to her storm” as his calming nature compliments Kimberley’s driven and passionate nature. Kimberley had known Kris for years and their love was officially ignited while Kimberley was away at veterinary school. They struck a cord immediately and their family and friends knew they were meant to be together by the way they talked about each other. During the morning preparations the emotions were running high and came out while Kimberley exchanged gifts with her parents. Her baby bonnet used for her baptism was crafted into a wedding handkerchief by her mother. The connection she has with her father is through their emotions, almost any occasion will move them to tears and this day was intense from the gift exchange to walking down the isle. Many tears of joy were expressed throughout the best day ever. Thank you Kimberley and Kris for allowing us to spend your incredible day together!

Working with Joel Ross is simply a riot and we couldn’t have had a better day together. Thank’s Joel.

The Döner

The first time we met with Nada & John they were set on hosting their wedding day in the Rocky Mountains. Their idea of a perfect wedding was being surrounded by the beauty and majestic landscape along with their closest family and friends.  The Paintbox Lodge is a cozy boutique hotel in the heart of Canmore, Alberta which the entire family could enjoy together.  Having the newly joined families relaxing and dinning together at the lodge was the perfect way to seal this bond.

Nada & John’s story is filled with adventure and includes a group of hilarious friends that set up their first meeting.  Jessie & Henry saw the potential the two had together and didn’t stop laying down hints that the two of them should meet.  With the Calgary Stampede coming up it was a perfect time to arrange a meet up.  And, as they say, the rest is history.  With their mutual love of the mountains and outdoor lifestyle they quickly became a couple that sent a lot of time in Canmore.  The ceremony was held at the Alpine Club of Canada over looking the treed valley and mountain tops.  The Tavern 1883‘s log cabin style restaurant was a great way to incorporate the love of the outdoors for the reception.

We had an incredible time working with Jenn from Open Images and her images of the wedding are gorgeous!

I’m So Lucky

It’s easy, “All You Need Is Love”!  This line from the famous Beatle’s song sets the tone for Melanie + Dean’s Feature.  They ultimately met online as so many of our couples do, and they have built an inspiring relationship on trust and commitment.  That being said, these two have so much fun together!  They make each other laugh constantly and you will see from their film that joy and laughter is a significant part of their lives.  Melanie + Dean consider themselves “lucky”, that they get to be together and experience the rich blessings of companionship and love.  Hearing from their friends and family it is clear they have been shown what it means to love unconditionally, and triumph over adversity, so their “luck” will serve them well into the future.

It was a pleasure working with this all-star line up: BLF photographySoiree Event PlanningHotel Fort GarryPlanned Perfectly, and the Danny Kramer Band.

Mia Principessa

In this quaint town of Lorette, located just outside of Winnipeg is the Parish of Notre Dame where Christa and Jeffrey were married.  The bell tower stands tall above the fabric of the land and the architectural painting on the ceiling speaks of it’s grandness.  At the end of the ceremony they walked out to the sound of bagpipes bellowing out from the upper balcony; the church rumbled under it’s resounding power and the truth is it made us jump as we were not expecting it.  It was a nice surprise.

Christa and Jeffrey’s highlight film is a vibrant reflection of their relationship. Together they experienced a long distant relationship while Jeffrey was studying in Boston and they also had their engagement in Italy.  With adventures and travels like these it was also fitting that their priest, Alan Forgarty, their long time friend resides in Rome.  Christa and Jeffrey expressed powerful tokens of affection through their letters, gifts, and their vows, all of which we could use to carry their film along.  We encourage our couples to include the people that mean so much to them. Christa and Jeffrey chose their Grandmother to perform a special reading in the ceremony, adding a very personal touch to the film.

We hope you enjoy their film as much as we had crafting it together!

Thanks again to Joel Ross of Joel Ross Photography for making the day so enjoyable and to Emma Singn of Events by Emma for the incredible design and event planning.  We also love working with Dale and Melissa from The Gates because of their premium food and service.

Like It Was Yesterday

Gifts from the heart mean so much when there is thought and anticipation built up all around them. Jordan and Jeff put a great deal of thought into the gifts they presented to each other on the morning of their wedding day and both of them were truly swept away by the letters they wrote to one another. We love how they focused on why they love each-other and expressed that love through words. Being together for many years, they had been through some ups and downs in life and this day was meant to help celebrate the good memories and cherishing the memory of loved ones who were not present.

The day could be best described as a non-stop romantic and sentimental expression of love for friends, family, and each other. One of my favourite moments is when Jordan’s father see’s her in the dress for the first time; what a precious moment that Jordan will no doubt carry with her for life. Their story weaves together the most meaningful and heart-felt moments and we are so thankful to have been apart of their day.

We had the pleasure of getting to work along side an old friend, Coralee from Red Photo Co; a long time professional in the industry.

Who’s the Unicorn?

Heather and Chris’s eyelash trick was all a ploy to sneak in a kiss.. it didn’t work but the attempt spoke for itself, the message was clear.  But wait, this also meant Heather was not an ordinary woman.. she was special.  Chris and his fellow men had a test to see weigh in on the character of a woman pending the right timing of coarse and Chris went for it while at Rushing River while on a camping trip.  Love can blossom in so many ways and naturally it can happen over normal day to day events.  We love to hear stories like this that bring out the full scope of who these two people are.  The moment of truth came when Heather was not swayed by the fake eyelash question and figured out what was about to happen before Chris could follow through.  Thus she was a true unicorn as per Chris and his friends had determined what that character would look like.  Love stories…. we don’t grow weary of them and in fact it spurs us on to tell them as best we can.

Evening Delight

Jess and Jake are two people deeply in love. So much so that Jake surprised Jess with a five year wedding anniversary vow renewal on their patio with 35 guests. Being there to witness their exchange and account of what they mean to each other was emotional and inspiring and hearing how much they cherish each other is a true testament of what a thriving marriage can look like. Jake did a heck of a job planning everything for the surprise and pulled off an amazing celebration. The weather was gorgeous and evening light was magical. The dancing continued as the sun went down and it was a close and intimate time, just beautiful. Being the amazing photographers they are (Kamp Photography) it was a privilege to capture this time in their lives that will be so meaningful to them in the years ahead. Hearing Jakes account of his planning and surprising is a must read as well.

Eyelashes Light the Fire

Heather and Chris’s spark started with a question, “do you have fake eyelashes?”  Seems like a reasonable question if the circumstances were different, for instance not on a camping trip.  Well these two made a connection that day that will forever be their story.  We got to know Heather and Chris really well during their portraiture session which you will see pieces of in their Same Day Edit.

Each of the them walked us through their first meeting story and how the progression lead them to their wedding day, which is always interesting and fun to hear two sides of the same story.

Icelandic Scenics

Driving out to Gimli (Manitoba’s Icelandic community) early in morning had us excited for a water front cottage feel to Heather and Timothy’s same day edit.  There was one thing that we were nervous about and that was the dark clouds that threatened the outdoor picturesque filming we would be able to do.  And we are so thankful to say it couldn’t have turned out much better than it did for the entire day’s schedule.  The ceremony and reception took place at the Waterfront Center which had fabulous lighting and the atmosphere fit so well for their celebration.  We were so thankful that their first look on the pier turned out beautifully with the sun shining down.  They were both so ecstatic to see each other that Timothy bolted as soon as he could hear that Heather was close behind and they were so ready to get married.  This location is particularly meaningful for the family with its history of spending time together at the lake.  And now having been married here it will forever hold deep meaning with them.

Thanks to Photographer Rebecca Croft for a day of fun. Always good to work with you!

A change is going to come

This story has a happy ending, rest assured! The rainiest day we had this past summer had to land on Laura and Tommy’s wedding day. While everyone was looking for that break in the clouds, ready to quickly set up for a beautiful backyard ceremony. Somehow, someway, it would work. The break in the clouds did not come, but in its place we found ourselves in an incredibly cozy and intimate living room ceremony which we believe brought out the best in everyone to make it happen. Laura and Tommy are a fun loving, fast-paced couple and the atmosphere that day brought out a deep and meaningful experience. It set the pace. It even had us in tears.

We took note of Laura and Tommy’s seren peace. We know Laura put her heart and soul into planning this day. Through it all, their purpose was to celebrate their union and we carefully scored their film intending to bring out the deep sense of calm that took place. Even with all of the action happening around them with tea ceremonies and traditional celebrations, it was so sweet to see how they just focused on each other (along with many family and friends).

In The Clouds

Being world travellers and adventure enthusiasts, Kasia and Piotr both decided to host their wedding day at Kicking Horse Resort in British Columbia. They expressed their commitment to each other on an open patio with all of their close family and friends gathered around at 8,033 feet in the air (shouting from the mountain top). When we first met these two over Skype, we immediately knew they were a match for us. They’re full of energy and have a passion for life and intoxicating love for each other. Not only did we get a chance to film in the mountains (being a prairie boy, any elevation in landscape can be exciting), it also allowed us to work on a product we introduced last year; The Feature. Add a road trip in there, rain, snow, sunshine, lower amounts of oxygen and we have the perfect mix of an adventure for all of us. The long drive in the car eating nothing but junk food, and what made it so special is the memories and bonding experiences we had along the way and the connection we had with Kasia & Piotr. They made us feel like family. We have never felt so at home while filming abroad and it was breathtaking experience.

Working with Andrea Nicole Photography made for a great experience. Thank you Kasia and Piotr for allowing us to partake in your adventure and letting us into your close circle of family and friends.

Human Geography

Starting with a crush at kids camp and meeting up again in human geography class just goes to show how you can meet the love of your life in the most unexpected places.  Michelle & Adam have a wonderful story shared a gentle character. The whole wedding day was perfect. We started the day at the Fort Garry Hotel and they had their first look in the raised walkway that joins the two buildings. Adam’s reaction to seeing Michelle was priceless, “wow, I am a lucky man”. We’re happy to share their story. It was great working with Ramona and Tracy of Ramona Garbald Photography; we had a fabulous time together.

Adventure Land

Getting married on a mountain top… that is a romantic tale in itself.  Kasia and Piotr (aka Peter) gave us a lot to work with. Their backdrop fit who they were – there was just so much adventure everywhere we went. Their family and friends travelled from all over the world for this intimate wedding celebration and even though being at that altitude, we were peppered with snow, everyone forgot and just set their eyes and hearts on these two. We are super excited to share with you (tease you with) their trailer as we look forward to sharing more of their story in the Feature Film.

 Turn and Watch

Anna and Mike are both as sweet as can be. Even with so many of their family and friends celebrating all day long, the day remained so peaceful and calm. We love to see, experience and be a part of traditions and cultural elements that make a wedding day so special; like when Mike had to ‘pay’ his way to see his bride, and Anna’s parental blessing on the new married couple. It’s easy to see just how sweet and loving these two are, in this film. It was great getting to working with Julie Fulsher of Sterling Images.

The Distance

From the first beat in the morning everyone involved in Marissa and Robert’s wedding was enchanted by this marriage union.  Many family and friends gathered from across North America to celebrate in Winnipeg.. yes the place less traveled and a hidden Canadian gem ;)

The ceremony and day to follow were encapsulated with tradition. We love how they celebrate the union of marriage with everyone dancing together.  All the decor and flowers were captivating to say the least. The centre pieces were the tallest things we have ever seen and it made the reception look unreal, giving it a grand and enchanting atmopshere.

Again, Andrea from Soiree Event Planning and her team delivered a flawless day and experience together with Joel Ross Photography.  We appreciate working with you both and being apart of Winnipeg’s wedding industry every single day.

All we can give…

Love is a very interesting thing. It doesn’t care where you came from, but only that you are together… the power of love that brought Kiet and Adrian together will continue to reach beyond those boundaries and touch and heal many people.  This day was filled with many cultural and emotional celebrations, filming all this kept us on our toe’s. We absolutely loved their first dance! These two are very driven and talented individuals and seeing them together moving across the dance floor topped off the day.  What an incredibly fun day this was and we are so inspired by their story. A huge thank you to Bond and Leah from BLF Studios.  Check out their stunning photo’s from Kiet & Adrian’s wedding. Thank you Melissa, as well, for filming with us.
