Mia Principessa

In this quaint town of Lorette, located just outside of Winnipeg is the Parish of Notre Dame where Christa and Jeffrey were married.  The bell tower stands tall above the fabric of the land and the architectural painting on the ceiling speaks of it’s grandness.  At the end of the ceremony they walked out to the sound of bagpipes bellowing out from the upper balcony; the church rumbled under it’s resounding power and the truth is it made us jump as we were not expecting it.  It was a nice surprise.

Christa and Jeffrey’s highlight film is a vibrant reflection of their relationship. Together they experienced a long distant relationship while Jeffrey was studying in Boston and they also had their engagement in Italy.  With adventures and travels like these it was also fitting that their priest, Alan Forgarty, their long time friend resides in Rome.  Christa and Jeffrey expressed powerful tokens of affection through their letters, gifts, and their vows, all of which we could use to carry their film along.  We encourage our couples to include the people that mean so much to them. Christa and Jeffrey chose their Grandmother to perform a special reading in the ceremony, adding a very personal touch to the film.

We hope you enjoy their film as much as we had crafting it together!

Thanks again to Joel Ross of Joel Ross Photography for making the day so enjoyable and to Emma Singn of Events by Emma for the incredible design and event planning.  We also love working with Dale and Melissa from The Gates because of their premium food and service.

A Field of Dreams

We kept hearing story after story about how these two knew they were meant for each other. It became the basis for our film; a true account of soul mates. It’s a story of struggle, redemption, perseverance, and family. Faith is ultimately what guided them together. A true calling; a true love story with a happy beginning.

For me, the day was deeply impactful. We were quickly caught up in the day’s events. Jessica and her family had put a lot of planning and labour into this wedding and it showed. With the help of Soiree Event Planning, it looked even more spectacular. Every detail was so delicately thought out and put together. One of our favourite areas on the farm was the ceremony location in a beautiful Manitoba prairie field. A well developed crop with a section flattened in the distance. Bails of hay for seating and a fence made out of crops. It was a field of dreams.

Thanks again to Curtis Moore of Moore Photography for his stunning work and truly amazing fun times to film with.

Like It Was Yesterday

Gifts from the heart mean so much when there is thought and anticipation built up all around them. Jordan and Jeff put a great deal of thought into the gifts they presented to each other on the morning of their wedding day and both of them were truly swept away by the letters they wrote to one another. We love how they focused on why they love each-other and expressed that love through words. Being together for many years, they had been through some ups and downs in life and this day was meant to help celebrate the good memories and cherishing the memory of loved ones who were not present.

The day could be best described as a non-stop romantic and sentimental expression of love for friends, family, and each other. One of my favourite moments is when Jordan’s father see’s her in the dress for the first time; what a precious moment that Jordan will no doubt carry with her for life. Their story weaves together the most meaningful and heart-felt moments and we are so thankful to have been apart of their day.

We had the pleasure of getting to work along side an old friend, Coralee from Red Photo Co; a long time professional in the industry.

Icelandic Scenics

Driving out to Gimli (Manitoba’s Icelandic community) early in morning had us excited for a water front cottage feel to Heather and Timothy’s same day edit.  There was one thing that we were nervous about and that was the dark clouds that threatened the outdoor picturesque filming we would be able to do.  And we are so thankful to say it couldn’t have turned out much better than it did for the entire day’s schedule.  The ceremony and reception took place at the Waterfront Center which had fabulous lighting and the atmosphere fit so well for their celebration.  We were so thankful that their first look on the pier turned out beautifully with the sun shining down.  They were both so ecstatic to see each other that Timothy bolted as soon as he could hear that Heather was close behind and they were so ready to get married.  This location is particularly meaningful for the family with its history of spending time together at the lake.  And now having been married here it will forever hold deep meaning with them.

Thanks to Photographer Rebecca Croft for a day of fun. Always good to work with you!

 Turn and Watch

Anna and Mike are both as sweet as can be. Even with so many of their family and friends celebrating all day long, the day remained so peaceful and calm. We love to see, experience and be a part of traditions and cultural elements that make a wedding day so special; like when Mike had to ‘pay’ his way to see his bride, and Anna’s parental blessing on the new married couple. It’s easy to see just how sweet and loving these two are, in this film. It was great getting to working with Julie Fulsher of Sterling Images.

Dancing, rain or shine

Well, here we are on a brand new site for Paperback Films. 2011 has been a fantastic year for us, and to help break in this brand new blog, we wanted to share a new film. Late last summer, we met John and Rhosan. Our first impressions were “this is a couple chalf full of energy”. They both instantly knew what they were after and we were happy to have had the chance to work with them and be a part of their special day together. It was so fun going back and forth with different ideas for their films. Earlier in the spring, we had filmed a Portraiture of them as a couple (check that out here) which gave us a chance to dive further into who they were – outside of their actual wedding event. Rain or shine, these two make the best of any occasion and always have fun.

We didn’t present a Same Day Edit, but instead presented their Portraiture film to all of their guests; all watching together for the first time. It was a perfect introduction to the evening and we had a similar exciting experience as showing a Same Day Edit. Coralee of Red Photo Co was so great to work with (she always is) and it was a treat having Rebecca there as well. Funny story; these girls will do just about anything to get a good shot. There’s a little hint of what I’m referring to in the bts photos :) I look forward to many more adventures at more weddings with those ladies. Thanks to Cody who helped film their wedding with us. Hope you enjoy, and while you’re at it – take a look around, drop us a line and leave a comment or two. Music licensed through With Etiquette.

Prince Philip…

Incredible heartfelt couples that are truly head over heels for each other are only found in fairy tales, right?  Well we assure you they happen in real life and when we had our first meeting with these two it was so amazing to sit and laugh, chatting about all kinds of things and hearing about how they met.   Yes, a couple truly in love.   Just a self realization note to add in here; we have found that after our first meeting with our couples we generally have a good idea of what they are like and what they are into, and when the wedding day comes around a different part of them comes to life.  So, for Ayli and Phil we would say we were completely mesmerized by how close they are to their families and how head over heels they really are for each other.  The first look was the much anticipated moment of the day and watching Phil’s reaction to seeing Ayli for the first time could melt anyone’s heart.  Phil is a groom that we would describe as a noble, upstanding gentleman, who will stand firm through the test of time.  Our utmost respect and adoration for these two, you both are incredibly loving people!

The Beat…

Ayli and Phil like a wide variety of music and we were very inspired by Adele, as Ayli had her playing in the background while getting ready.  We like to be inspired by new music and artists that fit the Paperback Films feel and for this highlights we were drawn into the intensity of Arms by Christina Perri.  Being able to get in so close at the ceremony and being right part of the action helped to bring their story along and as the song builds you feel the breaking of the glass approaching, symbolizing the broken world we live in with the hope that new love and life can heal all those who suffer.  At the sound of the breaking glass, family and friends shout “Mazel Tov!” which means good luck and congratulations.  Then the happily ever after comes…

A little bit about Amanda + Jacob…

Jan 16, 2011. If there are two words to describe Amanda & Jacob it would have to be fun and inspiring! It was clearly evident that these two were meant for each other.  We were lucky enough to be welcomed into the inner circle on their very emotional and special day. After spending a day with them we quickly understood the passion they have for life and each other. The path they traveled that eventually led them to find each other is a story everyone should have the privilege to hear. Amanda & Jacob, you inspired us from the second we showed up at your door to the emotional sparkler lit first dance. You encouraged us to find the story in your day, and you were gracious enough to share it with us. This is the story of Amanda + Jacob….

A little bit about the Feature…

We are very excited to post this wedding feature of Amanda & Jacob for a number a reasons. First, a little bit of backstory to set the stage. Amanda contacted us to see if we could film her wedding. We met with her (as we do with all our clients) at our favorite coffee shop to see what her day was going to look like and catch her vision for the day.

Being in the music industry and creative world, Amanda was open to hearing about a product we were wanting to test pilot and we thought she would appreciate it.  We had recently challenged ourselves to create more story-driven products for our clients and this was the perfect opportunity to “try out” this concept.  Needless to say, we presented her with the idea and she was thrilled about it. Instead of shooting and editing a full linear ceremony & reception with speeches, we agreed to shoot and create a very short film/story instead. The product would contain a Short Film Feature, Behind the Scenes Footage, and a Trailer. The film you see here is the Short Film Feature portion…

We are eagerly awaiting feedback to see if this is something that more couples would like and are interested in! Please let us know what you think, it’s something that confirms we are in the right direction! Special Thanks to…Photographer | Jodi Klassen Venue | The Brass Lantern Restaurant and Banquet Centre Amanda Falk’s Music | Amanda Falk
