We won’t say much yet, but Kari of Dove Tree Art & Design hired us to film a little promotional film for something she has been planning for a while.

The Trailer is just a small glimps of the perfect evening we had to film!

We also had some great friends along, Jack and Ruby Photography, whom we love to shoot with! Check out their blog post for a sneak peak of what they captured that evening too!

Enjoy! Let us know what you think!

Tamara + Jeremy | Same Day Edit

Tamara + Jeremy and Everything Else…

May 7, 2011 – Tamara & Jeremy’s wedding was one we were really looking forward to! We felt privileged to be able to spend the entire day filming with them and present a Same Day Edit right after the father daughter dance.  Shooting some hoops with the guys was in order before the strenuous activity of getting suited up in the morning.  Typically filming the guys getting ready can be quite short so it is fun, so to see these guys chill’n out and having a good time together before the formal part of the day.  The morning started as usual for Tamara and the ladies…hair and makeup was being done at their home which overlooks the rising river in Winnipeg.  Even Roxy & Brodie got in on the wedding attire; wearing a little doggie tuxedo and veil for a few photos.  With a few minor adjustments to the dress before the ceremony we were off to the extravagant ceremony at Springs Church.  We had a lot of ground to cover at the ceremony and access anywhere we wanted, so you will see some shots that we don’t normally get to shoot.  There is something very surreal for us when we can be on stage and have clips looking out over the guests. We appreciated the all access pass.  The whole day was a grand celebration and we are so thankful we could be apart of it!  Congratulations Tamara  & Jeremy!

A Little Help From Some Friends…

We have to make special mention regarding some of the crew working with us this time around. Usually we shoot with a very limited crew, but not this time. It’s not everyday we get to film with friends! Let us explain…We required a bit more man power because of the size of the sanctuary and the shots we wanted to get. So we called in our trusty side kicks Luc and Steve from At First Sight! What we appreciate most about these guys is not only that they are friends, but they share a passion for film like we do. We feel it is so important in the industry to work together and help each other out as much as possible. Thanks for all your help!

As well a big thank you to Rachael & Brian from Luckygirl Photography.  Working with them is always the best day ever and we are stoked we have a few more wedding booked with them this summer.

Enjoy the SDE!

If you haven’t already, feel free to check out their SDE Trailer

A little bit about Amanda + Jacob…

If there are two words to describe Amanda & Jacob it would have to be fun and inspiring! It was clearly evident that these two were meant for each other.  We were lucky enough to be welcomed into the inner circle on their very emotional and special day. After spending a day with them we quickly understood the passion they have for life and each other. The path they traveled that eventually led them to find each other is a story everyone should have the privilege to hear. Amanda & Jacob, you inspired us from the second we showed up at your door to the emotional sparkler lit first dance. You encouraged us to find the story in your day, and you were gracious enough to share it with us. This is the story of Amanda + Jacob….

A little bit about the Short Feature…

We are very excited to post this wedding feature of Amanda & Jacob for a number a reasons. First, a little bit of backstory to set the stage. Amanda contacted us to see if we could film her wedding. We met with her (as we do with all our clients) at our favorite coffee shop to see what her day was going to look like and catch her vision for the day.

Being in the music industry and creative world, Amanda was open to hearing about a product we were wanting to test pilot and we thought she would appreciate it.  We had recently challenged ourselves to create more story-driven products for our clients and this was the perfect opportunity to “try out” this concept.  Needless to say, we presented her with the idea and she was thrilled about it. Instead of shooting and editing a full linear ceremony & reception with speeches, we agreed to shoot and create a very short film/story instead. The product would contain a Short Film Feature, Behind the Scenes Footage, and a Trailer. The film you see here is the Short Film Feature portion…

We are eagerly awaiting feedback to see if this is something that more couples would like and are interested in! Please let us know what you think, it’s something that confirms we are in the right direction!

Special Thanks to…

Jack & Ruby Photography | Valentine’s Day Photo Shoot

February 13, 2011 |  by Chris | Paperback Films  |  Videos  |  6 Comments  |  Share  |

February 14, 2011 – C’est L’amour! It’s Valentine’s day and it’s time to reveal a little project we have been working on. Taking into consideration that we work in an industry surrounded by love, we wanted to do something that was specific to the theme. Little did we know…

About one month ago we were contacted by Kara & Becky of Jack & Ruby Photography. They wanted to hire us to document a Valentine’s Day photo session they had planned. Once they explained the idea to us we thought it was great, so we quickly signed on.

This film is really a supplement to Kara and Becky’s fantastic pictures. Go look at the pictures and then watch the video. It will give you some insight and a behind the scenes look as to what went on in the session.

We do have to say thank you to Desirae and Cole who did a fantastic job working in front of the camera. Desirae has her own company called Paper Airplanes, check it out if you have a chance.

We hope to have more opportunities like this in the future!

Enjoy!

Lauren + Adam | Highlights

January 29, 2011 |  by Chris | Paperback Films  |  Highlights, Videos  |  1 Comment  |  Share  |

Oct 2, 2010 – Picture a nice brisk day in October. The sun was shining off the autumn leaves… yeah let’s say it was a perfectly beautiful day.  We knew prior to this day that it would involve a horse, now we had not expected it to turn out the way it did as we have never experienced this before at a wedding photo session.  When Lauren made her way on the horse to the open yard through the arbour we realized this was going to be visually captivating and we were definitely stoked about the footage we were getting.  After driving away from the stables we reviewed a few shots and Cody (Paperback Films’ secret weapon) came away with the shot of the day, capturing the small white dog trailing Lauren through the arbour.  Couldn’t get a better shot if we planned it, way to go Cody.

As you all know we love outdoor weddings, and Lauren’s parents backyard was sweet.  They had raked leaves the day before attempting to preserve the nice lush green grass! The large tree overhanging the yard made for a lovely setting for the ceremony. Once the guest started to arrive we quickly noticed how visually stunning and powerful this setting was.

Adam and Lauren actually decided to go with us for their wedding as a result from seeing another wedding’s trailer we did a few weeks earlier; we are certainly glad they did. Once again Paperback finds ourselves blessed to be in the midst of so many people who allow us to do our work. To be given a 100% creative control on the wedding day is so appreciated. It takes a lot to trust us with one of the most important days in their lives. We don’t take it for granted.

Thank you so much for this opportunity, Lauren and Adam. You are so meant to be together! Enjoy!

We would also like to say thanks to Jeremy Hiebert of Jeremy Hiebert Photography and Andrea Mancini of Soiree Event Planning. As always, great to work with you both!

Amanda & Jacob | Trailer

January 24, 2011 |  by Chris | Paperback Films  |  Trailers, Videos  |  7 Comments  |  Share  |

Here is Amanda and Jacobs trailer. We have to say, it was an absolute pleasure to film this day. These two are so perfect for each other, what a blessing to see.  On a side note, we aren’t accustom to filming in frigid cold weather all that often, so we have to state for historical value that the outside temperature while filming this was -30 degrees Celsius! Yup, -30! Needless to say, we all survived! We wanted to use most of the indoor shots to keep it nice and warm :) .  So, go grab a cup of hot chocolate with some marshmallows on top and enjoy this short trailer of their day.

Jack & Ruby Photography | Behind the Scenes Trailer

January 10, 2011 |  by Chris | Paperback Films  |  Trailers, Videos  |  3 Comments  |  Share  |

I can’t say much due to the secrecy of the project, but Becky & Kara of Jack & Ruby Photography came up with a fantastic idea a while back and asked if Paperback Films would like to film a photo shoot.  After much deliberation (kidding) we finaly said yes. I’ll leave the rest of the info for when the actual shoot and video come out.

I have to make quick mention of the couple who were also a part of the shoot, we called them the talent :) Go check out Desirae of Paper Airplanes. She has some fantastic wedding stationery & graphic design work posted on her blog. Her and husband Cole put up with four cameras in their face for the afternoon! A complete pleasure to work with.

Anyhow, here is a quick trailer. Check back around Valentines Day in February for more!!

Rebranding | Our Journey

January 7, 2011 |  by Chris | Paperback Films  |  Videos  |  No Comments  |  Share  |

Well now that its official and we have launched our new Paperback Films website, logo and name we wanted to not only thank some of the people who helped us along the way, but also to share the experience of rebranding and merging business’s.

Our rebranding process was exciting as we were thinking about it all summer and fall.  Our two solo companies (Radtke Studios and Epic Videography) worked together for most of 2010 and it was looking like a rebrand would be in order to achieve the quality of product we were after.  How and why did this even happen in the first place you ask?  Well, back in the summer 2009 we agreed to meet and discuss if there were some possibilities of working together as it was looking like our goals and product ideas were headed in the same direction. 2010 started off great with our first “Same Day Edit” and the rest was history after that.  The process was challenging, but it was very clear that working together was far exceeding our original goals and our skills were complimentary.

I have to explain to you that Mark and I had no clue how to tackle the large task of rebranding and merging our two businesses. By no means do we claim to be experts, but at the same time we figured jumping in head first would be the best way to learn how to go about the process. Coming up with a name was probably one of the hardest things to do. It took us close to two months, hundreds of “trial” names and countless hours of deliberation before we even came close to something we both liked. It wasn’t until Mark and I were having dinner with my wife Becky at Moxie’s where it hit us! Just like that, in a matter of seconds we decided on Paperback Films. She asked us the right questions, which challenged us to realize what we liked and disliked.  Thanks Becky!

Once we had the name, we thought the rest would be easy. Not even close! We now needed to decide what our logo would look like. We hired Emma Roberts who desinged our logo. She was great to work with throughout the whole process as we broke down what was important to us. I think it was especial gratifying to go through this process because it put us on the opposite side of the creative process. A side our couples are usually on. We now understand how much trust is required when you hand over creative control :) ! Thanks Emma, we really appreciated your help and we love the logo!

Sketchs of the Paperback Films logo!

Paperback Films has come from years of hard work and experience we gained from our prior solo companies. Now all our efforts it can be focused on under one name.  We are so excited for the future and have been blessed by so many people, both in the industry and couples who hire us.  All the hard work going into Paperback Films is worth it!  Thanks to all those who have encouraged us along the way and we are looking forward to the direction Paperback Films is headed.
