February 14, 2011 – C’est L’amour! It’s Valentine’s day and it’s time to reveal a little project we have been working on. Taking into consideration that we work in an industry surrounded by love, we wanted to do something that was specific to the theme. Little did we know…
About one month ago we were contacted by Kara & Becky of Jack & Ruby Photography. They wanted to hire us to document a Valentine’s Day photo session they had planned. Once they explained the idea to us we thought it was great, so we quickly signed on.
This film is really a supplement to Kara and Becky’s fantastic pictures. Go look at the pictures and then watch the video. It will give you some insight and a behind the scenes look as to what went on in the session.
We do have to say thank you to Desirae and Cole who did a fantastic job working in front of the camera. Desirae has her own company called Paper Airplanes, check it out if you have a chance.
We hope to have more opportunities like this in the future!
Oct 2, 2010 – Picture a nice brisk day in October. The sun was shining off the autumn leaves… yeah let’s say it was a perfectly beautiful day. We knew prior to this day that it would involve a horse, now we had not expected it to turn out the way it did as we have never experienced this before at a wedding photo session. When Lauren made her way on the horse to the open yard through the arbour we realized this was going to be visually captivating and we were definitely stoked about the footage we were getting. After driving away from the stables we reviewed a few shots and Cody (Paperback Films’ secret weapon) came away with the shot of the day, capturing the small white dog trailing Lauren through the arbour. Couldn’t get a better shot if we planned it, way to go Cody.
As you all know we love outdoor weddings, and Lauren’s parents backyard was sweet. They had raked leaves the day before attempting to preserve the nice lush green grass! The large tree overhanging the yard made for a lovely setting for the ceremony. Once the guest started to arrive we quickly noticed how visually stunning and powerful this setting was.
Adam and Lauren actually decided to go with us for their wedding as a result from seeing another wedding’s trailer we did a few weeks earlier; we are certainly glad they did. Once again Paperback finds ourselves blessed to be in the midst of so many people who allow us to do our work. To be given a 100% creative control on the wedding day is so appreciated. It takes a lot to trust us with one of the most important days in their lives. We don’t take it for granted.
Thank you so much for this opportunity, Lauren and Adam. You are so meant to be together! Enjoy! We would also like to say thanks to Jeremy Hiebert of Jeremy Hiebert Photography and Andrea Manciniof Soiree Event Planning. As always, great to work with you both!
Here is Amanda and Jacobs trailer. We have to say, it was an absolute pleasure to film this day. These two are so perfect for each other, what a blessing to see. On a side note, we aren’t accustom to filming in frigid cold weather all that often, so we have to state for historical value that the outside temperature while filming this was -30 degrees Celsius! Yup, -30! Needless to say, we all survived! We wanted to use most of the indoor shots to keep it nice and warm :). So, go grab a cup of hot chocolate with some marshmallows on top and enjoy this short trailer of their day.
I can’t say much due to the secrecy of the project, but Becky & Kara of Jack & Ruby Photography came up with a fantastic idea a while back and asked if Paperback Films would like to film a photo shoot. After much deliberation (kidding) we finally said yes. I’ll leave the rest of the info for when the actual shoot and video come out.
I have to make quick mention of the couple who were also a part of the shoot, we called them the talent :) Go check out Desirae of Paper Airplanes. She has some fantastic wedding stationery & graphic design work posted on her blog. Her and husband Cole put up with four cameras in their face for the afternoon! A complete pleasure to work with.
Anyhow, here is a quick trailer. Check back around Valentines Day in February for more!!
Well now that its official and we have launched our new Paperback Films website, logo and name we wanted to not only thank some of the people who helped us along the way, but also to share the experience of rebranding and merging business’s.
Our rebranding process was exciting as we were thinking about it all summer and fall. Our two solo companies (Radtke Studios and Epic Videography) worked together for most of 2010 and it was looking like a rebrand would be in order to achieve the quality of product we were after. How and why did this even happen in the first place you ask? Well, back in the summer 2009 we agreed to meet and discuss if there were some possibilities of working together as it was looking like our goals and product ideas were headed in the same direction. 2010 started off great with our first “Same Day Edit” and the rest was history after that. The process was challenging, but it was very clear that working together was far exceeding our original goals and our skills were complimentary.
I have to explain to you that Mark and I had no clue how to tackle the large task of rebranding and merging our two businesses. By no means do we claim to be experts, but at the same time we figured jumping in head first would be the best way to learn how to go about the process. Coming up with a name was probably one of the hardest things to do. It took us close to two months, hundreds of “trial” names and countless hours of deliberation before we even came close to something we both liked. It wasn’t until Mark and I were having dinner with my wife Becky at Moxie’s where it hit us! Just like that, in a matter of seconds we decided on Paperback Films. She asked us the right questions, which challenged us to realize what we liked and disliked. Thanks Becky!
Once we had the name, we thought the rest would be easy. Not even close! We now needed to decide what our logo would look like. We hired Emma Roberts who desinged our logo. She was great to work with throughout the whole process as we broke down what was important to us. I think it was especial gratifying to go through this process because it put us on the opposite side of the creative process. A side our couples are usually on. We now understand how much trust is required when you hand over creative control :)! Thanks Emma, we really appreciated your help and we love the logo!
Paperback Films has come from years of hard work and experience we gained from our prior solo companies. Now all our efforts it can be focused on under one name. We are so excited for the future and have been blessed by so many people, both in the industry and couples who hire us. All the hard work going into Paperback Films is worth it! Thanks to all those who have encouraged us along the way and we are looking forward to the direction Paperback Films is headed.
October 2, 2010 – Here is the trailer of Lauren and Adam’s wedding! What a beautiful fall weekend it was. We were so lucky to have a warm and sunny special day with no wind. Lauren and Adam are one of the nicest people we have ever met. It was a pleasure watching them enjoy the day they had work so hard to plan. We were honoured to be there to capture this fantastic day! Thank you so much!
Mark and Cody and I, as always, had way to much fun working together!
A very warm shout out to Jeremy Hiebert (jeremyhiebert.ca). It was a pleasure to work with you. Our stomachs hurt from all the laughing and good times we had!
Thanks to Lindsay who stepped in for Andrea Mancini of Soiree Event Planning (soireeplanning.ca/).
August 15, 2010 – Creating a lasting memory for Dan & Baillie through their highlights video has been a rewarding process. Their journey through life to this point is what movies are made of, and the celebration was grand. These two have such a unique and interesting backstory which lead them to this day. They are a true living and breathing definition of the term soul mates. The family connections right down to the Rabbi’s exuberant energy made this day burst with excitement. To see how everyone gets into the festivities and celebrated Dan & Baillie’s marriage was amazing; Not to mention that the dance floor was rock’n all through dinner and into the night.
We were privileged to work beside Andrea Mancini from Soiree Event Planning , truly a pleasure. She took care of every detail for us. We can’t say how much we appreciated that! The Photographer was Ricardo Chvaicer. What a fun guy to work with. We truely enjoyed the laughs and colaboration all through out the day.
September 5th, 2010 – Here is a quick trailer of an outdoor wedding we had the privilege filming. A slight breeze was in the air, enough to keep everyone cool from the bright sunlight beaming down on us. It was awesome! You couldn’t ask for a better day. Jillian & David were having so much fun I am sure they didn’t want the day to end. What a fantastic couple!
Mark Hiebert was as always my trusted companion for the entire day. It would be very hard to do this without him! Also Cody Goetz who films with us from time to time was attending the wedding, so we put him to work. Curtis Moore was shooting the photos. We love working with him. Makeup – 2 Chicks and a Bag of Makeup Cake Design- Cake Studio Enjoy the sneak peak!
August 14, 2010 – This Same Day Edit will always be special to us. Watching Margaret and Bryan enjoy their wedding day is something we won’t forget. It was special to see how they were able to enjoy every single moment, taking it all in, one moment at a time. We thank you for allowing us complete access to your wedding day. It allowed us to capture everything we could ever have imagined! It has truly inspired us and will for a long long time!
As per usual, I was editing in every possible place imaginable while Mark and Cody flew around the city capturing all the special moments as they unfolded. Mark captured some fantastic slider and merlin shots. He made it so easy to edit this thing together. Props goes out to you Mark! Cody was along for his first time filming with us. He did a great job, so good that he got some of his work into the Same Day Edit. Oh, and he was the only one who was able to ride along in the Roll Royce…Lucky!
Coralee of Red Photo Co. (redphotoco.com/) was the Photographer. She is so much fun. We absolutely love shooting weddings with her (not to mention her super crazy good work!) Thanks to Hair FX (hairfx.ca/) for allowing us complete access while filming Margaret and her girls getting ready for the big day. Finally, we had the opportunity to work with Andrea and Lindsay of Soiree Event Planning (soireeplanning.ca/). I can’t say enough about these two. They were so helpful and organized. It made our day so much easier. We really appreciate that!
You know what I love about shooting video? I love shoots like this one.
Jack & Ruby Photography hired us to come along and film this session. They want to offer video to their clients and we were honored to get the call (not to mention super excited to work with them). Check out the photos of this sessions on their website – www.jackandrubyphotography.ca
Stacey & Chad, you were fantastic to work with. Thank you for the opportunity.
Mark and I were asked to film the first three photo sessions for Jack & Ruby Photography and put something together for them. Here it is…short and sweet.
